Ask your employer to consider providing commute incentive options, including:
- Pre-tax benefit — Allows employees to exclude their transit or vanpooling expenses from taxable income.
- Employer subsidy — Provides a subsidy to reduce or cover employees’ monthly transit or vanpool costs.
These options are beneficial to employees and employers, providing employees with pre-tax dollars for commute choices and lowering payroll tax for employers. Commuter Benefits Programs are mandatory for all employers in the Bay Area with 50 of more full-time employees.
